The Downfall of American Society
As Seen Through "The Cat In The Hat"
Let me begin by saying this: I'm an American, and I'm proud of my country. There are a lot of other nations right now (hint: France) that condemn us at every turn, often because they're jealous of our military power, economic might and abundance of freedom fries.
Then "The Cat in the Hat" got made, and there's only one thing to say - the terrorists were right. This movie is so bad, I would suicidily fly a plane into a tall building if it meant taking out the executives responsible for it.
Problem 1: Awful story. Wait, let me amend that - there is no story. The Cat flips out for about an hour, that's it. Mike Myers mugs the camera as if this were an Austin Powers movie. Looking at IMDB, you can see there were three screenwriters credited. None of them ever wrote a movie before. Why did this film get made in the first place? The Grinch, essentially the same movie, made a tidy profit. That's a better incentive than that useless invention called a 'plot'.

Problem 2: Ghoulish Monsters. Look at this photo. Those aren't cute characters your children will love. They are abominations that are sure to cause nightmares.
~
Big Deal, you might be thinking, it's just another bad movie. Wrong, sucker. This is no ordinary bad movie. That's where we get to Problem 3: Promotional Juggernaut.
Universal Pictures spent way too much money making this movie. What's mind boggling is, they spend far MORE on advertising. No movie this year dropped more dollars on commercials. Then there's the sponsors:
"This is one of the largest promotional programs put into place because it's such a wonderful piece of Americana, and companies want to be associated in these times with something very American and very beloved," said Susan Brandt, vice president of licensing and marketing at Dr. Seuss Enterprises.
Translation: "I want your money".
The Cat in the Hat literally set the all-time records for most promotional movie tie-ins. I'm sure you've seen the garish Burger King commercials by now, they're harder to avoid than shitty Reality TV series. You can't twitch in a grocery store without bumping into some insulting movie sponsors. From terrible video games to heinous apparel, you literally cannot escape the marketing blitz.
The Biggest Problem: Retarded Moviegoers. Despite every critic on the planet hating it, TCiTH still became the #1 movie in the country, and with video/DVD sales, will make a good profit. It made $30 million dollars in its opening weekend, meaning that there are approximately 3 million idiots who couldn't think of a better way to spend two hours. There is no God.
This is why America is doomed. How are we going to stop terrorism, or make a rational decision over who's to become our next President? We're too busy paying money to insult our collective intelligence. Republican or Democrat aside, a person who has paid $10 to see The Cat in the Hat has no business deciding the future of our country.
As it has now been proven, if a company wants to take us in the rear end, it only has to 'lube us up' first with a hefty promotional budget. We will happily bend over and take whatever we're given, no matter how awful it may be. Why else would Ashton Kutchner be around? His incredible acting range?

"its heinous cinematic realization that the producers may as well have skipped the hassle of securing licensing rights and simply called this mess Mike Myers: Asshole in Fur." -Gregory Weinkauf
~
While researching this mess, I came across Yahoo! Movies, which lets the public give their opinions on film. So if you're wondering what kind of inbred, senile, retarded, drug-addled sloths enjoyed 'The Cat in the Hat', here they are. For fun, I challenge you to find one positive review that doesn't have heaps of grammar and spelling errors.

Stop trashing the movie. You're picking at the movie without focusing on what its really about. All the movies that have come out, like Treasure Planet have bombed at the box office. Have you ever consitered movies like Shrek? Now don't lie how many people took their kids to that and saw that kids enjoyed it. Was it all the way approprite, no but thats what made it so everyone could enjoy it. Cat in the Hat has been altered and isn't the same story, but the Cat in the Hat is about twenty pages, and there isn't enough to make a movie totally from that. Its the modern version of the Cat inthe Hat, an dit must remind too many people of their lvies to be considered enjoyable.

It was suppose to be a kids movie but great. Adult humor and jokes! Come on anyone who thought mike myers in a movie that didnt have that!? God you put it down fore not being a dr. S. book but come on he sucked! So i like it. This is sooooo much better. ITs at the top with the bad reviews and comments. KIDS LIKE SICK JOKES. So you old fashion folks grow up and understand that times have definatly changed!

The Cat In The Hat is outstanding in all ways. The movie kind of teachs a leson by all ways do the right thing.I think there was to much adult humor for a kids movie.I think Dakto Fanny was the best and Mike Myers was to but the funniest was Cornnard!!!The Cat In Th Hat should go to the Ocars

If you can just go in and watch this for for what it is, a childrens movie, and just enjoy that it is a good movie. I thought the plot was weak, but i didnt go in expecting Lord of the Rings...it was Cat in the Hat. There was some very funny parts to the movie. Alec Baldwen in almost untolerable as usual , but I thought Mike Myers did I good job. You just have to view the movie for what it is.....Everyone in the theater with me seemed to enjoy it, there was lots of laughs. Anyway, I enjoyed it, and I think you will to if viewed with the right attiude.

i believe that cat in the hat is a good movie just because they put in a few extra things dosnt mean any thing. it would be boring if they just copied everything from the book. you have to have some kind of twist of your own. i mean they are the ones making the movie. if they hadnt made the movie who would of. sometimes people forget that kids have an opinion too. kids might like but you might not and thats the way they have to think. they have to relay on the youth just as much as the relay on adults or movie critics to rate thier movie good. just because there were farts and burps and things that you dont see in everday life doesnt mean that the movie is bad or disgusting. i find very funny when people do things like that because i do see it in everyday life that is what us kids have fun doing. and if people dont like it than they need to get over it. and thats what i believe!

Cats make me horney! So needless to say after seeing this movie I was ready to EXPLODE! Don't exactly know what went on with the movie, being distracted and all. I know there was 1 scene I put a piece of popcorn in my mouth and the cat said BOO! and it scared me, so I choked on the popcorn kernal.
After drinking some soda, I let out a LOUD belch and resumed being horney.
