The Worst Song Ever Made

I love the Beatles. I mean, a lot; no other band comes close to the number of great songs they made. Every now and again, I broadcast a Shoutcast station featuring my vast collection of Beatles-related music. And whenever I'm on Kazaa or WinMX, I search for covers I haven't heard before.  That's how I came across the worst song ever made.

William Shatner is known to many for his portrayal of Captain Kirk on the original Star Trek. He is NOT, however, known for his singing voice, and here's the proof. In the late 70's or early 80's, Shatner apparently got whacked out on drugs, and started performing 'spoken word' concerts, where he would recite poems or songs. Somehow, he got his hands on the Beatles classic "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds". What follows is a tragedy of infamous proportions. I'm not kidding, there's no way to screw up the song any worse than this.

There, are you happy now? I can't explain the sheer brutality of it all. Maybe Shatner has some sort of inner-ear imbalance, making him incredibly tone-deaf. I'd like to know the name of the producer who helped make this, and yet DIDN'T destroy the tape for the benefit of all mankind. I blame this recording for the big stock market crash of the 80's, William Shatner is personally responsible.

If by chance you're a masochist, you can still get the CD this came from. It's called Golden Throats, and it's basically a whole collection of painful celebrity recordings from the likes of Jim Nabors, Leonard Nimoy, and worse. Take a look at Rhino Records to find out more. On second thought, don't.
